It's been quite a long while, few months to be accurate, since I have posted anything. These past two months have seen a divergence in the road I have walked the past four years. As I move on from my past, I move forward into my current and future goals.
My first big building block will be the start of my Masters, where I will be researching the history, culture and language of the #Indigenous #Cree of #Canada. A subject matter in which I have a deep and personal connection. During that research, I will log my #adventures and share them with you through this platform and my blog at Intrepidphotographer.ca.
The second big step will be to transform both @intrephotog and @exposurestudio into the #brands I envisioned when I started this #journey many years ago. I once read that the only way to spark #change in the #world, is to first create change in your own life, then make a stand for what you believe and show those around you how such change can #empower them to make their #difference. It is in that statement where I will diverge, I will no longer sit idle in my comfortable world. Moving forward, as a business owner, I will only work and support companies who want to create change in #environmental #awareness, #community #outreach and #consumer #awareness. Helping to build those brands that understand the underlying need to spark an immediate change to help humankind move forward in a #progressive and thoughtful manner.
Its a hard road, one where I can easily be judged by my own life under a microscope. The #nature of my #career, my #passions and hobbies, all of which have carried a burden of typical #consumerism at its worst. I have done my best to minimize my own personal impact, make #concessions where comfortable, deny some comfort, all while trying to justify uses of less environmental methods for unusual #transport; occasionally using my Jeep Wrangler to get into harsh environments for the sake of documenting the beauty, or at points, humankind's #destruction of those areas.
In return for those wasteful moments, I have made a few concessions in my own life. I drive only when absolutely necessary, opting to walk or cycle every location suitable. In a few more steps, I will eliminate my need of single use plastics. I have started to grow what I can in my limited space, buy mostly from the local farm market and minimized my impact on the meat market buy eating more fish, which I catch myself. All of these are simple, household #reduction #principals. Not always easy, as everyone's life is different. Make your own decision on what you are willing to give up to help, build that small change in your own life and start to hold the companies #accountable for their actions.
Join me in supporting the ones who see things clearly, who #enact and #enlist change. If we all start to only support those who work at creating a safe, #healthy future, other companies will have no choice but to follow the new rules. Everything starts within one small moment. Let's get this ball rolling.
